  • Hi, Ken.  Old age is setting in . . . can't remember if I got back to you or not!  I let the business of CFR go by the wayside.  I FRP'ed in '96 and we've been living on PEI since 2003.  My husband, Ron, had a forced FRP (he was a PERI) in '97, but finally retired from all sorts of jobs in February of this year.  We've been traveling as much as we can while we're still mobile.  Haven't been out to BC since 1995; I suppose we'll have to venture out sometime.  Will probably wait until supplementary health insurance is too expensive to leave Canada!  Sounds like you're living the good life.  Take care!  Lynne

  • Hi Ken:

It's sure been a while.  Yes, we were on the Senior Leaders Course in Esquimalt in 76 and then I went to Cold Lake for 4 years. Next went to St. Margaret's NB then back to Ottawa in 83.  Final posting was to Aircom Wpg and I retired from there in 1990.  Did a couple stints in Underground Complex here in North Bay then retired for good in 96.

How is life going with you?  Hope all is well.

Now living the good life in North Bay.  Have been here for the past 22 years and looking forward to a few more yet. Of course, like an old car, we require a lot of maintenance now but thanks to the rapidly evolving world, we seem to have a lot of the problems under control.

Will try to email you sometime soon.  Take Care.

  • Hello, Long time since I've heard from you. Were in Florida now and heading back to Windsor next week. Will get intouch when we get home. John Lowther
  • Hi Ken. Yup,I remember you from 116th Indep Fd Bty. That was me back when Frank was CO. Cec Poirier was my CO prior to that and then John Lamb was my last CO. I really liked Cec...... fair but didn't put up with shit. Always looking out for his gunners. I remember RSS Gun Sgt. Bob MacInnis (Uncle Bob); Sgt. Leo Perry (hated it here); Sgt. Ron Joyce; Sgt. Chuck Sinclair; Cpl. Bill Ponton (both hometown postings); Capt. Ron? Sawicki; and Capt. Bob Lee Just heard Frank passed a couple of months ago in Winnipeg, and Chuck also passed recently. Was a paramedic from '77 to '96, then disabilitied out. Fighting WSIB ever since. Joined The CAV Jan. '09 and enjoy it immensley. If you're ever in the area let me know. We can drag some bait around the lake!

  • Hi  Ken, Thanks for the note.  Yes, we did do basic trg together in the same platoon in 1963 at the Service Corps School.  Check my old pictures and one of the first class pictures taken you stood next to me.  Noticed that you wore a RCAMC badge, I don't recall to who you transfered to as I don't see you in the corps training pictured at CFMS school.  I too did 30 yrs reg force the transfered to the Reserves and completed 5 more with the local infantry battalion.

There weren't too many for the medics from our platoon that stayed for a full career.  Joe Friend was one.and Cameron MacKay lives in the area, I bump into him once in awhile.  He has MS real bad, confined to a wheel chair.

We are about to have another snow storm, with snow turning to heavy rain and back to snow, its been quite a winter this year here in Nova Scotia.  Not sure what part of BC you are in.

I am now in the Corps of Commissionaires in my 12 year.  Not sure how long I'll stay in, I only work two days a week in the local Public Library, though its not as easy as it sounds as the young jobless and homeless youth hang around for the free computers. A day never ends some something happens, that usually required police intervention.

Thanks again for the comment.  I'll add you to my email and send you a joke or some pics.  My email is tomandriuk@tru.eastlink.ca.

  • Ken,great to hear from you.Have a safe trip and I'll still send you my daily humor jokes.Take care, keep in touch.Cheers.

  • Ken, how is it going my friend.  Good to hear from you after all these years.  I have retired, of course.  I left Wpg in 89, did 2 years with Southern Alberta Militia District, moved up to the Bde HQ as Supt Clerk for 2 years, did 2 years in Washington DC with CDL, moved back to Alberta Militia District for 2 years and retired in 97.  Now live in Ste Anne, MB, a small town 30 miles east of Wpg.  Being a Nova Scotian I feel landlocked, however, Deanna is from here.  One of my Daughters, Sara, lives close by, and the other Lise leves in Wpg.  Life is good.  I am off to Honduras tonight for a Habitat for Humanity Build.  Back in a few weeks, hope to hear from you.  VMT, Gary
