  • Well Edd me old son, Chief Kram would be proud of you and your gators, well turned out.Its hard to believe its been 53 years since we pounded that damn parade square but my body will confirm that time has gone by. 1959 is but memories but damn they are good ones. Let go all lines and fenders in, splice the main brace and hands to scran. Well I must let my salty collar down now and head back to my mick and lights out, thank God I dont have the middle. Dont pull the sticks from my rig now. Fair winds my friend, eight bells and Im out of here.

  • Hey there me old trout, From the Seaway  and the Oasis  Taverns I send the echo's and lights flash of last call &10cent beer, Olands and later the sweet fragrance of the finest wines, Zing. Instant stupid was the cry. The gals of the OLympic Gardens, the Seagull Club (Halifax's finer hotel and dance hall for young sailors on a weekend of liberty and fine drinking.)Many happy hours were spent in these and other establishments in those days. Today I would be hard pressed to stay up late eneough walk out on the dance floor let alone find a fine lady to take out there with me.I had the sad lack of pleasure to go see Cornwallis one more time and I was appauled by what has happened there. The main gate is a disaster and fallen down, The diaze is in total disrepair and abused badly with the parade square covered in lumber from the mill established in the drill shed. I stood with tears in my eyes as I thought back in time 53 years years ago, when I was in the Royal Guard and standing for hours at attention in front of the old clock tower with the Guard PO's, Po2 Russel and Po1 Jamieson walking amongst us with blakies clicking and hell about to bust loose. Commadore Budge paid us a unannounced visit and started a fire in the boat house to see how long it would take the rounds men and fire hall to take action. As I stood there the ghost of CPO Kram stood with me with fire and tears in his eyes with what they had done to "HIS DOMAIN." But, I digress: I wear the biking gear today for two reason !. My wife doesnt see me as "The Chief"" and controls most situations with the authority of the "Buffer" and 2. Its what I do these days and it keeps me young. It felt good writting this as it has brought back lots of good memories of yesterday and one of the most exciting and interesting period of my life.To all those matlos out there, Fair winds, low seas and keep the powder dry. Let go all lines, bring in fenders and full speed ahead. TTYL   Helgi
