  • Thanks Rudi

  • I am not a talking head that is always interviewed on TV... LMAO

  • Canada being what it is, or was, a Nation of Peace, we should recognize our service personnel for their service not only to the Nation but to the free world, though the choice of theatre of operations lies with politicians who have never look the barrel of a gun from the wrong end.  Thus I strongly believe, especially as a neo-Canadian for more then 55 years, that the relatives of a soldier dying in action should be treated the same as one of our wonted MPs, without the six-year "service period"; in other words, the widow or widower should receive a pension to the highest level the deceased spouse would have been expected to achieve after full career.  The children should be afforded free education PROVIDED they continue to work hard to obtain good grades, up to post graduate studies if required.  In the case of seriously maimed personnel, the same would apply.  Wounded personnel should never be erased from the rolls, unless by request.

This of course would need to be fleshed out but, fundamentally, should be a blueprint for the treatment of our disadvantaged military and their families.

  • Back for a few mins.  Correction on my last.  Should have read Radar and Communications School (R & CS) at RCAF Station Clinton. (Aug 64 to Mar 65).

Addendum to my last ref my final Morse/TTY exam - What helped me pass my final, was the fact that the slowest morse student was sitting beside me during the exam and the instructor decided to stay in his chair for the exam.  I had the slow guy slide his typewriter (I was using a USMC 1942 version Remington) close enough for me to reach it and was able to type the rxed characters onto both typewriters which balanced me out and allowed "buddy" to pass.

Hey, what are friends for eh?

Will catch you other means, but have a couple of hours of year-end stuff to do for my Computer Security business, so will have to catch you on the flip-side (when I can!)

PS - The reason that I was copying 28 WPM at Clinton was that it was the fastest tape they could get for me and another "Flying Fingers" student.  I am confident that I could have hit 35 wpm.  I did later at Trenton Macs, but  I was cheating (using a bug). Even then, with the exception of myself and another VOC mbr - Cliff Fairbanks, no one could COPY above 30.

    Cheers

  • Rudi,

Just saw your last; Roger that on the Morse. I was copying 28 wpm tapes at Clinton in early 65 while at CFSCE Clinton and had to drop down to 16 WPM to do my final exam.  Almost failed, because I had to wait so long between characters.

Have to run for a bit and pick up the wife.  Concure on ur comments ref other means.  You can catch me at john@veteransofcanada.ca or webbsecure@shaw.ca

    Back in a bit.

  • Hi Rudi,

Just noticed that you have not logged off site since Dec 6th.  This creates a bit of a problem in that you are always shown in the members online slot and if everyone stayed logged on, we would have thousands of names to wade through to see who we can chat with, etc etc.  Just saying!!!

A few things caught my attention when looking at your profile.

    1. You are showing the letters SSM after your name.  This indicates a "Post-Nominal" initial generally earned during your service.  Certainly, it looks like you have earned the Post-Nominal initials C.D.

However, if your SSM is what I think it is, then it is NOT a legitimate Post-Nominal initial, and would be similar to using UNEFME, UNDOF, CPSM, etc etc. after your name.  Again - "Just saying" (an observation only).

    2. Looks like you are a fellow "Sigs Pig" and that you served in Alert as well as in NATO. I am pouting because you "LIKED" all of the groups you joined - except my ALERT.  You even LIKED my buddy - Gary Stewarts - HAM and CFARS groups.

    3. Lastly, any friend of my long time buddy - Dale Weston, is a friend of mine.

In retrospect, this comment looks like a lot of verbal crap and its 0230 hours, so I think I was just tired and noticed your profile at the bottom of the screen and things just kind of went from there.

Disregard anything you want and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013, unless of course, you have "TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA".

OK, time for a shot of "Jagi" and then to hit the sack. Carry on - Mate

    Best Regards
